Toni Wilson is a well-respected 46 year-old nurse and social worker at a small, privately-owned suburban hospital. She lives comfortably in a well-maintained home, has a wide circle of caring friends, and has risen to the pinnacle of her career. Toni is even engaged to marry Dr. Ralph Mallory, but underneath this comfortable façade, Toni's life is filled with turbulence. Still grieving over the death of her son from "pneumonia," Toni can't bear to give away his clothing. Nor can she explain her sudden physical attraction to other women. When her fiancé tries to attribute her new sexual feelings to a mid-life hormonal imbalance, Toni doesn't buy it. She starts exploring other options and finds herself making spontaneous shopping trips to the gay bookstore, sex shop and the local lesbian bar where she meets a wide range of lesbians, including her co-worker Van. She soon falls for the beautiful and elusive go-go dancer, Evonne, on whom she tests out her newly learned cruising skills.
