| A film which studies a “queer friendly, sliding scale, downtown” therapy group of women in Olympia, Washington, who have really lived life in all its flavours. The group shows you how can they help one another by just meeting once a week. What results is a poetic presentation of eight very different characters; the sex rocker, the born-again Christian, the punk amputee, the hypochondriac, the goody-two-shoes, the tramp, the bigot, and the binger – equalizing these women in a way that is unique and unexpected. At first it seems pretty messy, as there are different shots in the screen at the same time in a multi camera so that every image it from the same moment, the same place but different angle. That way, once you get used to it, you can choose who you want to look at, the punk girl, the old-fashioned woman, the reactions of the poor-rich-girl-whose-father-is-in-love-with-a-girl-younger-she-is or when the arrogant lesbian talks about her private life. |
