Puppeteer Craig Schwartz discovers a door in his low-ceilinged Manhattan office that allows him to enter the mind and life of John Malkovich for 15 minutes in which you see, hear, and feel whatever he's doing, before falling out at the New Jersey Turnpike. A ridiculously insane idea that turns out brilliantly. The puppeteer tries to turn the portal into a small business. Cameron Diaz is unrecognizable as his wife, the timid plain Lotte. The sexually frank Maxine is bored by the active attention of Schwartz, but is very interested in the new business. Lotte, being very interested in Maxine, finds that this is mutual when Lotte is inside Mr Malkovich. When Malkovich finds out, things get out of hand with the culmination of Mr Malkovich entering the door himself. The film is full of surprises.
