a lot? Not if you consider that webbers estimate there are between 30 and 65 billion pages out there (that means that since the web went "public" in 1991, an average of between 5 and 10 million pages are created per day (since only roughly 6800 days went by in the www days), while other estimates claim that currently only a quarter of a million pages are created per day - makes you wonder...) Any way, how many of them are cool? Less than 0,01 promille... |
Research has indicated that most people only visit a very limited number of sites and don't surf at random. Most, maybe, but not all. And since when is majority relevant when it comes to coolness? People sometimes just wanna surf, learn, investigate, get informed - not everybody is content with what they already know (or think to know). The more is thrown on the web, the harder it is to find coolness on the web. Once upon a time, coolness with sites, meant, that the authors really tried hard, to get a good content out, and in an easy to read and preferably aesthetic way, and above all, free of charge. The best things in life are free for a reason. There are plenty of good informative sites, but when they charge money, are full of annoying non-informative commercials, have a lousy hard-on-your-eyes layout, are incompatible with browsers which a lot of surfers use or, and that is the worst, advocate inhumanity, bigotry, intolerance or disrespect, it has nothing to do with coolness. And these informative but uncool sites are plentiful, alas. That why I take in in my stride to keep a page like this alive. So that people who do wish to surf and find cool sites, have just another way to do so... |
